      I am glad to learn that you are interested in Chinese Spring Festival. It falls on the start of the lunar year and lasts fifteen days. The Spring Festival is the most important festival in Chinese culture.

      Before the festival, people often clean their house from bottom to top. The Chinese character “Fu” is attached upside down to the front door. On the Spring Festival Eve, fireworks are let off, lighting up the night sky. Family members get together to have dinner. The most traditional food is jiaozi. They talk and laugh, saying goodbye to the old year and welcoming the new year. During the festival, people usually pay a visit to their relatives and friends, sending their best wishes. I think it is really fun and relaxing. You are welcome to China to spend the Spring Festival and experience Chinese culture.

       The person I admire is Tu Youyou, the first Chinese female scientist to be awarded a Nobel Medicine Prize. In the 1970s, she researched Chinese herbs with the help of her team and managed to discover artemisinin. Tu Youyou tested it on her own body.        Recently a survey, whose topic is “Do you use shared bikes?” has been conducted among the local people.

       According to the survey, 70% of those asked gave a positive answer. As for the reasons, as high as 96% of them choose to use shared bikes for their convenience. The majority think riding shared bikes is cheap. Surprisingly, only around 31% consider riding as good exercise. Sadly, only a minority of the users, exactly 19%, turn to shared bikes as a way to reduce pollution.

       By contrast, the other 30% said “No” to shared bikes. 70% of them refuse to use shared bikes for safety concern while the other 30% think it is uncomfortable to ride bikes because it may be too hot in summer and too cold in winter.

       It was Saturday, just before May Day. My classmates and I went to the park nearby. We didn’t go there for amusement but took part in voluntary labor.

        When we got there at 9:00, we were divided into 3 groups and then began working.

        The students in Group One planted trees and watered flowers. The task for Group Two was collecting litter left about by tourists and cleaning the benches. The group I was in got to the children’s playground and wiped all the equipment clean. We worked very hard.  

        At 11:00, when all the work was finished up,, everyone was in sweat. Yet, we felt happy because we had done a good job.

        Living in the city has both advantages and disadvantages.

        It is often easier to find jobs. There are always many choices of public transport. Besides, there are a lot of interesting things to do and places to see. You can eat in good restaurant, visit museums, go to cinemas and go to parks whenever you want to relax.

        However, living in the city is often very expensive. You must find a well-paid job; otherwise, you will not be able to afford the things you will do. What’s more, the city is always crowded, noisy and dirty. It is very difficult to find a good place where people can enjoy peace and fresh air as in the countryside.

      We all want to grow up happily and healthily, and for this goal we must do several things.

      Firstly, we should develop a good attitude to life. Life consists of not only sunshine but also hard times. We should be brave in front of difficulties. Secondly, we must study hard because knowledge is power. If we have the power, we can help to build our country and enjoy life better. Lastly, in order to study well, we need to do sports so that we can keep fit. We can go running, play ball games or simply take a walk after a day’s study.

       If we do those things well, we will be able to grow up happily and healthily.

       How is everything going? I’m glad to learn that you are going to China this summer. You say you are worried about your Chinese if you are in China. Now let me give you some advice.

       First, you should be brave and confident to speak Chinese when you communicate with others. We Chinese are very friendly, so you needn’t be afraid to make any mistakes. Second, speak Chinese slowly and clearly when you talk to others. In this way, you can make yourself understood easily. Finally, you can use pictures or drawings and body language. As you know, most of body language is in common in the world. I hope these suggestions will help you.

        The topic of “Should students make friends on line?” is becoming more and more popular recently. There are two sides of opinions about it.

         Some people say yes. The Internet helps make many friends. Chatting on line, students can more freely express their feelings and opinions, and even get help with their foreign language studies.

         Others, however, think students should not. They say making friends on line is a waste of time, which should be spent more meaningfully on study. Besides, some students get cheated on line.
